My wife is a teacher so archery elk hunting with me in September is not really an option at this point. She loves to hunt and I promise her every year I will figure a way to get her elk hunting. I am trying to gather some info on how to get her out late season on a cow hunt. I would rather not use an outfitter but I guess I would be willing to in order to get her a tag. Couple questions....
Can I pick her up a WY leftover cow tag if she was not in the draw and are all units usually options in WY for the leftover cow/calf tags?
I see that checkerboard land can be an issue in some of these areas in WY. Do you guys have any ideas? She is not worried about horns. She just wants to get out and fill the freezer.

You can PM me with advice or suggestions.

Thanks

Where do you live?

Utah has some cow seasons you could hunt over Christmas or Thanksgiving break. Would take a couple years to draw as a NR.

Ohio. Yea I am aware of some of Utah's cow hunts. She doesn't have any points anywhere and I really think this year is going to work best time wise.

My wife is a teacher and she has went with my to CO in September numerous years to archery elk hunt..
Usually she saves her days off up, so every other year she can go with me..
She loves it and has killed with her bow.

You can buy cow tags for WY after the draw. It is usually around July 17 that they go on sale, first come, first served. Be ready at 8 AM when they go on sale because many will be gone before you even get logged on to the website. Most of the cow tags (type 6, 7, 8) run until the end of the year or later.
