Cow elk / turkey call

Heard a group of cow elk about 50 yards away, I let out a few cow calls, they went silent & disappeared. Has anyone tried using a turkey call to stalk closer to them instead of using elk calls?

Honest question: why would you want to alert them to your presence with a turkey call if you’re trying to stalk in?

Elk are loud & if I'm within 50 yds I'd never call to them & just let it play out while slipping around, but to answer your question.. I've never used one when chasing elk mainly because I've never seen turkeys & elk together. Not saying they don't comingle, just never seen it. On the other hand I've used them stalking whitetails with success, but it's a fact they comingle & alert each other of danger & putting each other at ease.

If you know what you're doing, you can make a perfect cow mew with a turkey diaphragm. I never knew until I accidentally did it.
