I'm not sure what kind of surface is required for quality wrap job, but probably still looking at pretty significant prep job.

EDIT: quick google search says in IA, the average cost for a quality wrap job is $2-4,000. Way too much for the vehicle in question IMO.
 
It all depends on expectations.

Sandblast it, tape it off, roll on some oil based enamel. Be into it for $750 and for a new paint job and significant status upgrade, you can't beat that.

Rat Rod it, sand it let it rust. LOL. Watched a guy a few years back paint his El Camino with a roller and brush. It hurt to watch.o_O
 
Cerakote it. Kinda like a hunting rifle: always spend twice as much on the paint as the car is worth.

I just put a wrap on my son’s Jeep hood. The paint was in bad shape with flaking and cracks. I sanded the rough areas and put the wrap on. So much of the old flaws showed through the wrap, I had to remove the wrap, sand and primer, resand and rewrap
 
I drive a 2006 Chevy Silverado. The paint has flaked off so much on the hood and roof that it’s almost all grey now. I don’t worry about it one bit. I’ll probably pass it down to my son in a few years for his highschool getto chitti. Also, I never wash it either since the dirt and mud is the only thing holding it together.
 
Single stage across the border @ Yuma would likely do you well. They get to use the "good" chemicals down there.
 
It wouldn't really fit on a commuter car, but I have painted some pickups and one truck camper in Monstaliner.
It's like LineX, but you do it yourself. Its very affordable, doesn't chip, peel, crack, or fade and is incredibly durable. And if you do it right, it looks awesome. Can be sprayed or rolled.
 
Good info guys. Thanks. I don't want to waste the $$, but the family constantly in my ear........ I've heard enough of it. Used to be funny, now just aggravating. A commuter car of all things! 🤦‍♂️

Catch a body shop that is slow. I recommend having the glass pulled and reset to ensure paint doesn’t peel (additional costs and risks). Definitely worth getting it professionally done but you don’t need to pay top dollar. Ask around and you might find a good connection such as a painter who’s allowed to do side work after hours.
 
its a Hyundai...keep the $3-5k a decent paint job will cost you for a down payment on a replacement car when the engine let's go...seriously, I woukdnt put any money in that thing that's not required to keep it safely maintained and going down the road. They are throw away cars and paint work materials have gone through the roof price wise to boot. Nevermind finding a decent place to do it correctly. Body and paint guys are more of a dying breed than other trades around here it seems anyway.
Or if your all that worried about looking good going down the road just go take out a mortgage and buy a shiny new full size SUV...thats what all the cool kids do....its just a payment, cant take it with you when your gone...I think thats an asinine approach to take, but thats me. It all depends on your finances and standards. If you have the coin, love your Hyundai and value its appearance to the tune of what a good paint job costs, send it.
I wouldnt, but to each their own...sure would suck to paint that thing just to have a rod knocking the week/month after you picked it up from body shop and need an engine replaced. Thats kind of a thing with those Hyundais
 
I had my daughter’s Nissan Rogue car painted at Maaco last year, with the intent of it lasting 4-5 years. Paid about $2500 for the exterior only (not inside door wells, etc.) in the same color. I was pleasantly surprised at how it looks and has held up this far.
