what do you do with your cordage to keep it accessible, neat, and conveniant?

I like to keep it strewn randomly throughout my pack in lengths ranging from 10" to 30' so that I'm never sure exactly how much I have. It's a system I have developed over the years and to be honest it doesn't work very well! Lol.
