One of the kids could have taken this bear - they were in the tree just before the photo was shot...

Fortunately he didn't because we had some good trail cam photos that documented this gorgeous sow running with a little cub (he's the little spider on the tree in this photo).

No luck yet - several bears skirting baits and flirting, and a couple small bears passed on. More to come...

Weather's clearing off and opening a little window for an evening hunt tonight. Blasting out of town to get a quick hunt in... I'll update around 11:00 tonight.

Couldn't tap into Wi-fi on my way out last night - so I apologize for lack of an update...

Evening was calm and quiet. Slipped in the stand on wet ground like a forest ninja. Opposite hills bathed in afternoon sunlight. It seemed like everything was perfect.

But... then the wind swirled for a bit and I heard a bear clacking jaws about 75 yards away on the trail I walk in/out on. He continued until dark.

I had a porcupine come to the bait, but that was the extent of the action for last night.

Headed back up tonight for another round of baiting/hunting. Be a smaller crew up this weekend. Only planning on about 4 of us. Weather looks nice - we should be able to take at least one bear this weekend. Wish we had a way to send updates more consistently, but the area is just too remote.

Had a pretty interesting encounter last night... stalked into one of the baits later than I usually would because the thermals didn't lay down like normal. Found a bear eating next to the trail cam. He walked off just out of sight so we snuck in to the base of the tree - shortly thereafter he came back and passed up the bait on a trail just above me within about 5 yards. My buddy had the camera rolling. Should be some good footage. Unfortunately he was a smaller bear that I chose not to take but it was still a fun experience. I will get the footage captured and posted as soon as I can.

Great Video Coop!

Thanks guys! - Ryan, can you embed the video? I couldn't get the code formatted correctly.

He seemed bigger when he was above me at 7 yards with a straight line of sight to us, but we've been getting pictures of a couple whoppers so I just couldn't give him the shaft. Big ears = young bear. After that little lesson though he might wise up enough to grow old.

I ran up last night and had bears all night, just nothing that I wanted to harvest. Got some cool - Go-Pro footage. I just need a sow in heat to come and take up residence at my bait-site so I can get some of those Sumo Bears to come in during daylight hours. The rut will be kicking in soon and will hopefully get things shifted into high gear.

Coop what size bear are you looking for? Is it 6' or bust?
