Someone convince me to build a 300 RUM. Im also kinda thinking about a 300 RUM AI and even +P’ing it. Literally balls to the wall 30 cal. Im thinking i would prefer to run bullets between a 174 ELD-VT and a 230 A-Tip. Sierra bullets will be in the mix as well.

You dont need to provide me with your load if you dont want, but i would like to know some of your guy’s build specs and what kind of velocities you are getting. Pictures are a bonus!

Here's my argument for the RUM. It is a much more efficient way to spend more money than you need to for a high-power 30cal when you could just go with 30 Nos. or 300 PRC.

I'll provide a little extra info, i have a CA Traverse in 300 PRC that im wanting to do this with. So the easiest option would be a barrel swap. Also, with my Traverse, i believe i have a combo of not the best barrel and crap brass. I see many of other's achieveing much higher velocities using the same powder and bullets i usually use, hence the barrel swap option. Right now, i forget my charge, but im using H1000 with a 230 A-Tip and im only getting 2600 or 2680. I cant remember the exact, but i know im not getting 2700. Its to hot at 2700.

Justa Remington Sendero in a KRG. Way too long and heavy to be a hunting gun IMO. This thing will never leave the landing:ROFLMAO: Berger 230gr OTM's though I'll probly go to ELD's after my stash is burned up. Mainly due to price and availability.

Its honestly way more gun than I need and the damn things spendy to shoot. It'll most likely get turned into a 300win mag or 7mm of some sorts when the barrel goes.

I built a 22” norma ai and am shooting 245 hybrids. It’s so fun. I say go for it!

I like a dinky little 200 gr bullet going 3100 fps in the RUM - it may only be 100 fps faster than a PRC, but more speed makes me smile a little bigger. Given the choice between the PRC and the RUM, I’m naturally drawn to the RUM - it will be nice to eventually replace the barrel with a more accurate one 28” and get another 100 fps. Lol

Everyone should have a big heavy rifle like this - it’s just fun. Looking at the case is just fun.

30-338 WM, 28” Wilson barrel. 212ELDX at 2850 which is pretty wimpy in today’s .30 magnum world. Had it to 800, not even a challenge to ring a 10” gong. Somewhere north of 14lbs. Brass is everywhere, resize 338 WM or 7mm RM. Way too much fun with a suppressor. 30cal magnums are just cool.

Convince you?…..sounds like you’re already convinced. But ok…..I’ll try.

There ain’t a man in your family……you ain’t got a hair on your ass, if you don’t shoot a sub 6 pound 300RUM….WITHOUT a muzzle brake…..just to do it.

Ask me how I know. Haha.

I had a RUM and loved it, turned it into a 30n and love it more - same velocity (+/- 100 fps) with more space for bullets in a more efficient case. Sounds like you are ready to go with your build and I am a big fan!

My 2 cents if you want a balls to the wall 30 to run giant high BC copper rockets, do a 300 Norma Mag ai. More capacity, better use of mag and freebore and just plain faster!
