I got bit by the long range bug this year. I’m 50 years old and have lived in Ohio my whole life, A non long range hunting state.

I hunted out west for large game for the first time this year. In preparation I went to a long range shooting range and was ringing steel with my trusty 30-06 at 500 yards. I was very fortunate to harvest a raghorn bull elk on my trip at 70 yards.

Now I’m hooked.

I don’t think at my age and honestly fair physical condition I’ll ever be a long range deep mountain hunter. But man I kind of want to get a rifle and set it up for distance. Even if just for steel. But I’ll hardly ever shoot it. So it needs to be for more than steel.

But I have a really accurate comfortable to shoot 30-06. I also have a .300 magnum that I’m afraid of and need to sell. The 7prc is intriguing. It gets me another 100 yards of similar energy as the 06’.

I feel like my 30-06 is all I’ll ever need. But that’s boring. But it shoots clover leafs with terminal ascent bullets.

Now the scope I really like is on sale. But if I only ever use my 06’ I don’t need another $1000 scope.

Man. I can’t be the only one ever in this place can I?

Just thinking out loud.

6.5 prc with a muzzle brake on it. Awesome for ringing steel or killing elk at long range. The 7prc kicks pretty good... For steel I shoot a 6.5 creedmore. If i was gona have one gun for both I would do the 6.5 PRC. Get a tikka, add the vertical grip to the factory stock. Throw a good bipod and good scope on it and you will be set for anything you want to do

My buddy bought a 6.5 PRC for the hunt. It worked well. It had a brake on it and the guide had him remove it however. Having shot with him I wasn’t surprised. That brake made it a cannon.

Buy a 6.5 creed in your favorite brand/stock style/ barrel length and dont over think it past that.
