How do you all consolidate your electronics to carry as little gear as possible?
Right now i use my phone for pictures and videos. Then i have my gps. Then a sat phone.
Be nice if there was one device for all of that. How is the gps on the inReach? Can you put onXmap chips in them? What about gps on the iphone? Is there a sat phone device for iPhone??

I've been using the InReach SE this season with my iPhone. I link them together via Bluetooth and use my cell phone to take pics, works as my GPS with the inReach app and to send text messages. The battery life was good on the InReach as well. Overall I'm very happy with this set up.

Someone needs to take notice here. A phone with faster acting GPS that took replaceable batteries would be nice. GPS that took pics and had basic texting abalities would be good. I think the phone is going to take over, the battery life needs to be fixed and a spot app in case you get in real trouble would be great too.

Same for me...the Inreach Explorer and S7 pairing has my GPS, Sat comms, emergency response, cell, camera + video, barometer, storm warnings, weather updates, compass etc well covered. Most of key items with redundancy too. Both are H20 proof and charge via micro usb.

I still pack a dedicated EPIRB.

The sooner the features of the Inreach are packaged into a smartphone the better.

Nice. Ive been considering the inreach. I need to educate myself a little more on the iphone gps. I see you can get the hunt maps with iphone. And it will work without any cell signal, correct?

I try to use my s7 for everything with pre downloaded maps. That with a means to recharge it. Also plan to add a inreach or spot. I personally don't take a nice camera except when I don't have a tag myself and am just there for the experience / pack out help. My phone has proven accurate and reliable for gps so a stand alone is useless for me unless integrated with another useful item.

I bought an inreach, but haven't used it yet. Not sure if I will. 99% of the place I hunt get cell reception so it seems like a mute point right now.

My phone does everything, camera, maps and gps.

I use my iPhone for everything, the big downfall has always been battery life and even on 2-3 day trips the battery would not hold up, especially in cold weather. I really disliked having to bring a large battery bank and cord and having to re-charge every night. I like to keep my phone in my bag/quilt at night to preserve battery but not two things linked together by a cord.

This past week I used a 3200mah battery case and for an almost unnoticeable gain in weight and size it gave me I think 200% more battery life, it's a huge improvement. There are a number available on Amazon.

Iphone with preloaded maps onto the GAIA app. I keep my phone in airplane mode unless I plan to make a call. Battery last a lot longer. Then I bring along a batter pack in case I do need to recharge the phone. All I bring.....hasn't failed me yet. I am going to invest in an In Reach soon though. Wife would like progress reports and to know I am still alive.......

Same as above but different apps. I use onX maps and advenza PDF maps. I like to create my own maps and use them in advenza. I'll be switching to the Poseidon battery pack this year.

I also use my iPhone for all pictures and videos. I do look at a maps app on my phone occasionally for a quick GPS view, but I also carry a GPS with onXmap chip for more detailed info, marking waypoints, etc. I also carry a sat phone (only for making calls out), and the only other piece of electronics is my range binos (sold my rangefinder and my binos when I bought the range binos).

The advenza PDF maps is what I also use, and I just discovered this year several features that I didn't know existed (I really like that app). I can't remember the kind of battery pack I carry but I think it's something like 5200mAh and it recharges my iphone 6 plus twice from completely dead? Anyway, what do you like about the Poseidon?

So you guys that are running phones instead of GPS - is there any features or anything you are missing out on over the traditional GPS? Other than the Onyx maps only other thing I use my e-trex 20 for is occasionally marking a way point but that's usually only for kill/cache sites or marking the truck.

I've been using my iphone for the last two years with gaiagps- fully functional gps. You do have to download the maps first- seamless as large or small as you want. I can get 4-5 days out of my iphone in airplane mode and shutting it off at night. I also only using the tracking feature sparingly on multi-day trips, as it takes some juice- day hunts I turn it one for the day. I carry a Black Diamond Ember Power Light flashlight as a both a backup light and it lets me charge my iphone (2600 mAh) in the event it needs it- haven't had to use it yet.

I used to carry a camera and gps, now just my iphone (in a Lifeproof case) :)

I carry a SPOT for emergencies (lithium batteries give me about 7 days of use w/ tracking, but shut off at night).

Haven't been able to play with it yet. I read some good reviews on them. They are 10000 mah and claim to get 3 to 6 charges to a smartphone. It's also waterproof and shock proof. An only comes in at 9.6 ounces or so all for I think around a hundred bucks.
