Considering Idaho Lion

Never have hunted lions with dogs.

Anywhere in the mountains you should expect it to be varying levels of cold and snowy. Sometimes very cold and snowy, sometimes warmer, yet still cold and slushy snowy.

Winter in the mountains. It’s going to be varying degrees of cold and snowy. Would help a lot in terms of research to pick out a specific mountain range, or at least a region. One of your biggest considerations is going to be access. Snowmobiles can be an extremely large advantage in some areas, again depending on conditions.

What part of Idaho? I live in far NW MT where the conditions are identical to the Pan Handle. I tagged along as an observer on a couple of lion/bobcat hunts this winter and that was by far the hardest hunting of my life. Its a hell of a thing to turn a couple dogs loose in the mountains and have to go get them no matter where they run.

Expect extremely steep climbs through very thick brush while trying not to fall over in mud and snow with no trail to follow. I'm 26 in fairly good shape and honestly couldn't really keep up with the houndsmen. Just followed their tracks up the mountain when I lost them after the first mile.

That being said, really really cool and fun experience. Never did get to see a treed cat, but heading back to the truck one day got to see big tom tracks right over our boot prints. No clue how he managed to slip right around us without anyone noticing.
