Considering a move to smokeless

Even just 59 gr h4198 behind a 275 in my encore conversion is a thumper on the back end. Wish I would have gotten a threaded barrel for a brake or can but ive got a front sight dove tail that is too close to muzzle to add them now..

Not sure I follow the $$$
A new Accura is much less.
Does Savage not still make a smokeless MZLD

Savage discontinued their smokeless gun ages ago. They aren’t a thing anymore. Historical oddity.

I own one and wouldn’t buy another. You can get a Hankins conversion Cva single shot cheaper and be better off.

It comes down to piece of mind and enjoyment of the season for me. I had an Accura LR, I wanted to wrap it around a tree because every single year I pulled it out of the safe it would shoot nowhere near where it was zeroed. The last year I had my Accura I shot it 12 times just trying to rezero it after I put it away in the safe zeroed the year prior. Add in the tweaking to get it to shoot Blackhorn 209 without poofing the unburnt powder and bullet down the barrel I got tired of fighting it after a few years, sold it and bought a smokeless barrel.

Now I don’t have to worry about rust, the thing shoots 275gr bullets at 2400 fps well under an inch, I can throw it on whatever base rifle I choose to use that year and I run it suppressed with a brake which takes a significant amount of the recoil out of it. I shot it 5 times this year, once at 25 yards on a box, adjusted and the second punched the bullseye at 100 yards, third was a deer, 4th was a deer and the 5th I unloaded at the end of the day on a 3” gong. Then I swapped the rifle back to its original configuration and the barrel goes back in my safe until next October.

As long as smokeless is legal in my state I will never shoot a standard muzzleloader again unless I break out my flintlock.
