Consensus on 156 Berger’s?

Safely, high 2900’s or 3,000 even with N570.
Gotcha. One of these days, I’m thinking of doing a “heavy” gun lol. Something like a 6.5-7, or a 280AI shooting 162 ELD. You know, for the times the 6 PRC just ain’t enough 🤣

Hahaha nothing wrong with having another gun!

We got our PRC before last season and so far we've taken a mountain goat, black bear, mule deer, and two antelope. Performance has been amazing from 40 yds to 490 yards with a MV of 2910 in a 24".
Update: I shot a mule deer buck last Friday and was the longest range I've had on game with the 156. Range was 892 and impact velocity was about 2000 fps. No exit but dropped on the shot. Once again I'm pleased with the performance of these bullets. Next week will be hunting whitetail and most of the shots are 150-250 yards. Hopefully I'll have a few more opportunities with this bullet combo.

The 156 Berger is a straight up killing machine. So much so, I got bored and wanted to test something else for my last hunt.

Tried out a 144 LRHT. Was able to get 3200fps and it’s basically the same G7 as the 156 (but shot 100fps faster). I ran a small drill bit in the tips just in case. The wound it made at 491 yards was exceptional. Definitely would need lots of confirmation testing because I don’t fully trust the pointed tips, but initial impressions look good for sure.

On the entrance side, it completely busted 3 separate ribs, 5” above the bullet entrance. And exited with a 2” hole.

I’ve been running the 156 out of my 19” 6.5 GAP 4s at 2820fps. I’m terrible about taking pictures in the field but I’m 14 for 14 on whitetail this year. Two have not exited. A frontal shot and a base on neck shot on a huge buck. Absolutely liquifies the internals and results in quick kills. Exits through the hide are usually quarter size but the internals usually show something different.

This is the buck that it didn’t exit. Possibly the heaviest whitetail I have ever killed. Picture does not do it justice.
