A while back I saw a connected to attach to trekking poles end to end to use as a center pole for TP or tall tent. I can't seem to find them now. Anyone know the name of the manufacturer?

I'm considering a DIY 4-6 person TP. Another option would be to purchase a tall tent pole in the 8' range. Any recommendations for where to purchase a custom tent pole?

Like this? Just take the last section out of one pole and connect it to the other. Works great for a shelter like a GoLite SL5 or other comparable setup.

Sweet idea ;)

Yup being doing it this way in my tipis since 2010.

I think Luke did a video on this? That's where I learned to do it for my LBO. Another great idea shared to the masses.

I can see the Moffat Method used above timberline, but below,
we've always just cut a sturdy tree pole for a tight pitch.
Just find a tight patch and thin one out.
I like to leave a few branch stubs for hanging stuff.

How stable are the poles using this method?
That depends on the hiking sticks. I have an ultralight set of Leiki hiking sticks and they totally suck for this use. Heavier poles work awesome though. I'm currently using REI brand carbon fiber flip lock poles and they're way better as a tent pole.

Mine are Black Diamonds with the flip locks. Haven't had to deal with any high winds yet but the poles did quite well when we had ice, sleet and snow accumulate on my SL5 and weight it down pretty good. Even had a critter scamper across the tent in the middle of the night.
