Concrete finish?

I have a back porch/patio that has an extremely smooth, almost glass-like finish. I don't know why they did it so smooth. Granted, it is very easy to keep clean but the slightest moisture on the surface even just high humidity causes it to become a Zamboni finished ice rink. When it's damp the wife won't walk on it, I avoid it and even the dog (130# Anatolian) won't walk on it.

I know there are all sorts of concrete anti-slip paints out there but that looks like it could get ugly pretty quick and be an annual chore. I was wondering if just a wash of diluted muriatic acid would do the trick. When I was young I worked for a brick mason and we used it to clean up red brick jobs.

Any concrete guys out there with suggestions?

I would think if you etched it with muriatic acid that would work just fine and give it just a bit of texture. Make sure that it is applied evenly or it will be visibly splotchy.

Solvent-based sealer with this stuff added is what our sales staff recommends.

The paints and grippy sealers all aren't fantastic. Acid washing leaves it splotchy and ugly most of the time. Your best bet is going to have it media blasted or sand blasted.

I have a stamped concrete back patio and the front walkway and it is dangerous with any moisture. I used the gator grip and resealed, which helped a little bit but it is still slick. I was going to use the gator grip 1 more time and seal the concrete but throw the gator grip out like you would grass seed by hand and see if that helps. My biggest worry is the kids running and eating it from the slick concrete.

We got a deal on the concrete finish but if I would have known how slick it would be I would have just gone with broomed finished.
