I know that not many people are fans of Kuiu compared to the top end packs, but on a budget of under $300 would you recommend a used Kuiu over something like the Alps lineup for overall comfort.

Looking in the 5000cu in range.

Theres lots to choose from on the market for under 300 bucks, I've got an Alps traverse and it's quite comfortable, but there's tons of packs out there and you should look into non hunt specific models, and check out Sierra trading Post a couple months ago they had mystery ranch packs in the size you looking for in earth tones for under 150.00 and they are quality equipment.

Yes! I've packed out lots of critters with a Kuiu pack. They've really improved it with the new suspension, but even with the old Icon Pro suspension it will pack a lot of weight. I also have a Kifaru pack and had an Exo pack. In my opinion the Kuiu packed better for me than the Exo.

I’ve tried everything except Kifaru and my kuiu still is the top choice. It’s all about what fits your body shape and everyone is different. I would absolutely choose kuiu over any pack brand sold in chain/department stores. All packs have come a long ways in the past 7-8 years but construction quality and adjustment are still far superior on the top 5-6 options.

I would buy a top end frame this year and just use dry bags lashed to it. So if you get a critter down then you'll be covered for a heavy pack out. Next year or as your budget allows you can get a new or good used bag to go with your frame.
