I have been shooting a 70# "Mongol" primitive bow for a few years now. I really enjoy shooting it. I have been very interested in the Comanche method of shooting, where the bow is drawn to the chest instead of the face. It is actually far more comfortable, imo, than a standard draw and forces you to really know where your bow is going to send an arrow. Does anyone shoot with this type of method? Any advice on how to develop it?

I don't have any words of wisdom but I would note that the technique is the product of short bows with short draws. The horse bows of the Plains typically didn't permit draws beyond 25 inches and most were much shorter - have a look at the arrows in a museum and you'll be struck by how short they are. A guy on another website used to hunt with that style of bow and shooting style and did very well. He did note that arrow speed was not as good and his shots were generally under 15 yards. But still pretty cool. Let us know how you do!

Have shot asiatic composite bows for the last 5-6 years. Have tried the Comanche draw and bows, but as said it was done due to arrow and draw length, not because it’s better. Thumb draw steppe style allows much greater draw lengths.
