I was going to suggest Buena Vista too. It is easily in your 2 hour drive range and only 30 miles north of Salida, which has also been suggested. A short drive to the ghost town of St Elmo is neat too. With Cottonwood Pass now open you can drop over to Taylor Park or Gunnison too. Our family has been going to the Taylor Park area for years. Lots of OHV traffic but the scenery is hard to beat.
