Colorado Unit Question

We are headed out for an archery hunt the first couple weeks of September and we've got our three units in mind we are pretty solid on units 25 and 34 after reviewing the sites on OnX and scanning the old inner web for information using forums, Huntscore.com, etc but I'm on the fence about unit 14. Unit 15 seems to have better feedback as opposed to 14. We are from Iowa so we won't have boots on the ground scouting knowledge so just using as many resources as we can. Sounds like the biggest draw back on 14 is the amount of people hikers, tourist and hunters. I kind of expect to hit people in most places just because summer vacations will be winding down and such and hunters out early either scouting or hunting just comes with public hunting. We are looking at being at elevations of 8k - 10+.

Any feedback you can provide for pro's and con's on 14 and 15 would be much appreciated.

I used to hunt the south part of unit 14 all of the time. Over the years is has become very busy with people hiking, running and mountain biking. They even have a big event called Run Rabbit Run. The last time I hunted there it was held on opening weekend of black powder season. It puts a lot of people in the area for several days. Last time I looked it up they still have the race event so I haven't been back.

They again have the Run Rabbit Run, 50 & 100 mile races all throughout lower unit 14. I see this as more of an opportunity for people to push the elk to specific areas. You can see the course descriptions online.

There was a fire in 15 last year - Sarvis Creek area - you could go in there with everyone else
Fire started in 15 near the 15/27 boundary and quickly moved east and out of the wilderness into Unit 27. Most of the burn area was east of Red Dirt Road (FS Road 100).

Definitely incorrect

All I know is, I watch zero other videos, only his stuff, and I’m always listening for unit and have yet to hear one. Now I’m only listening out of curiosity, because it’s a sensitive topic, I hunt where I hunt and I’m not changing, I wouldn’t even go in a LE hunt if you gave me the tag. The day I have to change units is the day I hang it up.

I even recall a recent video where he burned 19 preference points in CO, and I figured he would mention the unit as it’s basically a once in a lifetime deal, but he never did.

Maybe he used to, I’ve only been listening to him for a year or so, I have heard him say he’s got in trouble for mentioning units in the past. Since I’ve been listening to his podcast, there’s been not one mention of units, only that he’s got in trouble in the past for mentioning units so he no longer does.

I've never heard Newberg mention a unit but it's usually not too hard to figure out.

I can think of at least 4.

He's probably the single best voice for public lands and puts a positive face to the hunting community so whatever but I've also definitely looked up where I thought he was at.

Like others have said, there's probably more non-hunting use in 14 than 15. If you want to glass, 14 would be better than 15. Plenty of beetle kill in both.
