Hi, I'm from Missouri and a hardcore whitetail hunter, and this year me and a few hunting buddy's are venturing into Colorado to archery elk hunt on possibly Unit 80. This will be all of ours first time. And while we are all skilled at Deer and Turkey, this will be a whole different story. From what we've heard we'll be lucky to see elk, much less shoot one. So far we've gotten solid boots, and broke them in, got a pack, maps, GPS, and other gear. But as far as hunting tactics go or gear advice, I'm open to anything! Thanks so much guys. -James

Have an A-D plan. Take your top three spots and study them on Google Earth in every direction looking for terrain features just like you do whitetail hunting. This will help you to decide where you will expend energy first to locate fresh sign. If no fresh sign then move to your next location even if it is within the same area of plan A. Do this until you find fresh sign or get all the way through plan D. If you get all the way through your locating plans, then start over or put a smile on your face and try to get a few locals to give you a few hints on locations.

Good luck.
