Been invited to hunt gmu 5 during the second rifle season. What are some realistic expectations?

Would get more responses with more information most likely. Is this private land? What part of gmu 5 or area will you be hunting? I know nothing of this unit but maybe this will get the ball rolling for you.

Having looked at the area on the Routt NF map, I would expect to have company riding ATVs.

Areas of easy access are hunted heavily 2nd Rifle with most pressure coming from the California Park area. I've seen good harvest come out of that unit but it will be earned. Elevations run from the Mid 8000's to the 9000's with some peaks around 10,000. Anything below 8,000 is going to be sage and cedar country. Most trails you'll see on maps are closed to motorized travel during hunting seasons. . . That doesn't always stop everyone but it does keep ATV traffic down some. There used to be a lot of pressure from horseback hunters but that has slowed down in recent years.

I recommend going in deep and early and using pressure to your advantage.
