I know this is an old thread but here's my .02 cents. I'm a resident with 10 preference points. I was looking at the unit 74 early season tag and spent weeks pouring over the preference points for the last couple years. After talking to the DOW a couple times it was obvious that it's not a sure draw for me. Each year it's creeping up as well so next year may not improve my odds. I went for a late season rifle hunt and will start drawing archery tags around my house next year. I've got 10 points for elk and 11 for antelope and goat so I've got to start using these points before I get too old!!!

I spent 8 days in Unit 21 last year, during 3rd season, during the rut. I am not sure how anyone kills any deer in 21 in the 2nd season. With the terrain, it is very difficult to see any deer due to the vegetation. There is a ton of roads though, so you can cover a lot of ground. Gotta find a place to hunt transition areas to water if its 2nd season, gotta be the only way to find something to put a tag on. I just do not think that 21 2nd season will be worth it, I feel you may be disappointed, unless you pay the trespass fees. Here is link to story on my 3rd season hunt, it may help.
