Colorado point restrictions

I am reading the Colorado rules and regulations for my upcoming archery hunt and would like some clarification.

It says bull elk taken in all seasons must have 4 points or more on one antler or a brow tine of at least 5 inches and then it shows a number of units including the one's I plan on hunting. So my question is since it's an either sex license. I think I am able to shoot a spike or am I misunderstanding the rules?

You can NOT shoot a spike in an antler restricted unit. It must meet the 4 points on a side or brow tine requirements or if it's an either sex available a cow

Yeah read what constitutes an antlerless, so if the antlers on the spike are less than five inches long, then it would be considered antlerless. Not likely to happen except with possibly a big calf.

The way it reads is it doesn't matter how long the single antler/main beam is. It can be 30 inches long, but if it doesn't have a brow tine longer than 5inches, then it is illegal. All spikes in those designated areas are illegal whether 5 inches or 5 feet long. This is how it is explained. My buddy saw a bull last year with over 2 feet of antler with 2 points on one side, and 3 on the other. He couldn't see any brow tines, so it didn't meet the minimum points or brow tine minimum. I don't know if I am misreading your post. Just want to clarify

cnelk. Would that bull not be legal cause brow tine length. Picture is kind of fuzzy. But at first glance, I would have said it was legal. It don't appear to have 4 pionts on one side. But brows look to be 5 inches

Now in that second picture that bull looks like on his left side has 2 brow tines for a total of 4 points, am I seeing that right? it looks like he has a funky turned down point which is pretty cool.

Ok. I can see it better now. It's not 5 inches. But I agree with what some have said. It looks like 4 pts on the left side. I would think that is legal.

It says very clearly a young male with less than five inches of antler is considered an antlerless animal and thus is a cow by this definition as listed in the game regs
