Started getting some points to mainly go west after some bigger game.
Have not been to Colorado for 16-18 years.
Meat hunting is the goal, antlers second in most cases except for im cow moose.
I have two points now for each species.
So as a non resident it takes 3 points for cow moose and I have two so this year I’ll have three.
Any point in trying to draw or just wait till April 2027 draw to try and draw and get another point this year.

There is a unit in Colorado that took less than 3 points several years. I drew cow moose there in 2015, and again in 2018. It's not a great unit, but I did kill two cows. As a non-resident, not sure the cost is worth it, what's a moose tag in Colorado now $3000? plus $100 per point, application fee, etc...
I didn't apply for moose after 2018, didn't seem worth it to me. Cool to get a moose, but the quality of hunt with all the deer and elk hunters made it more a crap shoot than a hunt. I shot my cow moose in 2018 in the last 45 minutes of the last day. I hunted very hard and covered a tremendous amount of ground, but deer and elk hunters had pushed the moose out of their normal areas in the beginning of the season.

If you have two points, you won't draw so it doesn't matter if you apply for a unit or apply for point only. Each will give you the same results.

With meat being your primary goal, moose is not your best value. It's $102 for the annual small games license, $100 for the preference point, and $11 application fee. That's $213 to apply assuming you buy the point every year. You may be already purchasing the annual small games license for other species so it's easier to stomach. Then it is $2,759 once you draw, this includes cow. You're not likely to draw bull moose in your lifetime but there's always a chance.

Your best bet for meat is staying home and hunting whitetail. However, if you want a new experience, I encourage anything out west. I've never had regrets going out west, even the trips seeing little to no game.
