Colorado Gunsmiths

Gents,

Going to be archery hunting here soon in September and after the hunt will be staying in Breckenridge for another week. My question for anyone in the know is, are there any quality gunsmiths within driving distance? I need someone to put on my little bastard brake on my Tikka T3. Figure if I am going to be up there I can at least drop it off while I am there and have it shipped back.

Kevin Weaver looks to be on your way about 2.5 hours from Breckenridge. He does a lot of work with the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society.

Not exactly close, but I've had good luck with TJ's Gunsmithing in Aurora. During no traffic Breck is 1.5 hrs from Denver, but good luck on not hitting traffic anymore.

Not sure if you will be heading close to Colorado Springs on your way back to Texas, but Rich Reiley at High Tech Customs rebarreled my 340 Weatherby for me. Lilja match stainless barrel, beautiful work, and installed his own brake. Recoil is similar to a 30/06 now, and very manageable. There are lots of good smiths around, it's just a chore to find them when you're outside your home area - Rich Reilly IS a great one and a really good guy as well - He tries hard to keep his prices reasonable too

I'll also recommend Richard Reilly of high tech customs in Colorado Springs. However, he normally is guiding this time of year. Call and make sure he's around first. He built my .340wby custom. Great gunsmith

Kevin Weaver is the best gunsmith that I know first hand. But before showing up a phone call would go a long way. I believe he is mostly doing custom builds these days. He is very particular on what he does and what he uses. His reputation depends on it! Otherwise he just built a .280 AI for a close friend and the groups were .33 at 100 yards. Cant ask for more than that!

Finally got around to getting my micro bastard brake put on. I took the advice on here and ended up using Kevin Weaver of Weaver Rifles. Great people to deal with. I spoke to both him and his wife on a few occasions and they are pretty down to earth. On top of that it was a quick turn around and competitive pricing. +1 for anyone looking for a gunsmith. This thread would not be fun without pics right.

He does really good work and I am having my own custom rifle being done right now! Cannot wait to test it out! Doing a .280 AI of a pre-64 model 70 action and a Rock Creek 5R barrel at 25 inches. Gonna be fun in May when I can start loading ammo up!
