I'll throw this in general conversation for now with no fishing thread.

Heading to Colorado for a quick week trip. Thinking I'll bring my fly setup. Will be near Platte River and Blue River around Breckenridge to Silverthorne.

Was going to run with a double nymph rig subsurface. Heard a lot of dry flies were hitting due to weather though?

Will pivot when I get out there and get eyes on, but any thoughts from any folks from Colorado? I was told it's fishing more like it's later in the season than it is.

Appreciate ya!

I live on the Blue and would rather go elsewhere if that helps. Flows are really low right now and will be for the foreseeable future.

Its never a bad day but fishing the Colorado in Gore Canyon or the Ark or Gunny would be more of a trip imo.

The Blue River is one if the stranger fishing experiences imaginable. A bunch of dentists standing 10 feet apart from each other, euro nymphing with shrimp flies, underneath a busy interstate highway overpass, behind the dumpsters of a shopping mall, all trying to catch the same 10 pound rainbow trout. Unless that sort of thing is your bag baby, I suggest looking elsewhere.

As mentioned by others, Arkansas and it's tribs are fantastic. The headwaters up by leadville offer great wade fishing. Upper Colorado is also great but is definitely a summer fishery.

I'll keep all of this in mind. I am not specifically going to Colorado to fly fish and won't have the ability to drive elsewhere often. I'll be with the family and so just looking at a couple local spots to waste some time while they shop and do girl things.

Well the blue is perfect for that. You can park in one spot. You walk to the river, they walk to the shops.
