Howdy all, I’m planning my first big elk hunting trip with my brother this year (we have both never been.) We’re looking pretty close at unit (edited) in Colorado, not asking anything in particular, but just looking for advice as we’re both very green to elk hunting. Thanks in advance and God Bless!!

Welcome to Rokslide! We do have a few rules in order to reduce spot burning. You are welcome to ask general questions such as how to pick out a unit or how to get started with elk hunting, we just ask that you leave out the specific unit number or any easy to find geographic references. I know that might sound ridiculous however give it a couple days and somebody will come along and reply with “ follow the canyon for 2 miles and head uphill to the north and you’ll find a nice secluded camp area, glass to the south to find your elk in the morning”.

Anyway, i’m going to remove the unit number from your question so that this aligns with our rules.

Elk are WHERE you find em

I’ve gone to same spots for elk (some years hunting and some years just glassing) and sometimes they are there. Sometimes not.

Be mobile - lotsa moving - lots scouting.

That’s the name of the game. Go find em and then work up plan to get em on ground.
