You can probably tell the question from the title. Colorado Big Game regs state "500 sq inches of orange and must be visible 360 degrees." If you where a backpack are you legally required to place orange on the pack as well?

I have called two different DOW offices and gotten 2 different answers (one yes it is required, and one no but would be appreciated).

Any experience from the forum is appreciated.

Letter of the law says you need to cover th pack. However, most let that go if you have the vest and hat. Also, no blaze camo.

Same experience I've never had a warden in the field tell me I needed orange over my pack. Although it is a law for it to be visible. So depends on who gets ya and if ur an ass or not. It's just like technically I do not have to wear blaze orange when I'm guiding hunters as long as I'm not carrying a weapon. Is it smart to yes but lot of times I've shed the orange when I'm guiding with no problems. Some packs have the blaze pullout that or the blaze cover. If ya got it use it then you don't have to worry

I usually take a cheapo blaze orange vest and drape it over the pack. Spent like 3 dollars and and even if I get a grumpy warden, I am good to go

The head covering is the only thing that must be visible from all directions. IT IS NOT REQUIRED THAT YOU COVER YOUR PACK. We had a thread on this just over a year ago. I am linking to the final response from the Lead Wildlife Investigator for DOW, but I encourage you to read the thread leading up to it as you will see others had similar experiences up to that point of getting to the top of the chain.

That being said, when I am rifle hunting I wear the Orange Aglow panel on my 22Mag. It's only during muzzy season that I am looking to meet the minimum requirements as you have archers in camo wandering around anyways so people are on the lookout.
