Colorado Bear Check in Problem

I got my first spot and stalk bear in Colorado and I have run into a problem. Turns out you can’t check in your bear on Saturday or Sunday (at least that is what Colorado State Patrol Dispatch tells me). My problem is I work Sunday and Monday and it would be good to be back home (7 hours away) for those days. Is there anything I can do? Or am I stuck to staying in Colorado until I get it checked/sealed on Monday? Would getting the phone number of an actual CPW officer help? Thank you in advance.

Try to get the local biologist or wardens number. That is your only chance on the weekend in my experience.

For future people with this problem on a weekend and you gotta leave the state. When youre ready for inspection call sheriffs office dispatch. Usually their non emergency number. Be polite you're asking dispatcher for a favor here. Explain situation ask for number or call back from on duty or on call game warden or biologist. If its day time in hunting season there is one on duty/on call somewhere. It may take hour or two for phone contact and few hours drive to meet up.

They know they can meet on weekend or most likely guys are just heading home skipping inspections. If you ask before your hunt if this is all possible, theyre probably not going to say yes. They cant have every hunter planning this in advance.
