Hey guys,

I'm from central Iowa and looking to team up with somebody or a small group of people for a DIY OTC archery elk hunt this fall (2016.) I have spent the last 8 months scouring Google Earth, getting in shape, tuning my bow, buying essential gear, trying to learn as much about elk as possible, & also hoping that I would be able to find somebody to go with. I've got everything on the list pretty much completed except for finding a hunting partner. I've had 3 people back out on me. I'm beginning to think that I'm the only person I know that is crazy enough to actually try this. My wife doesn't like the idea of me going by myself, & to be honest, I don't really like the idea either since this will be my first time elk hunting out west and I'm hoping that I can find somebody to enjoy the experience with. I have no experience elk hunting, but I'm in pretty good shape and I'm not afraid to burn up the boot leather trying to get something on the ground. I'm hoping to learn a lot on this trip and plan to try and do something like this at least once a year for as long as I'm able.

I'm looking to go for 5-8 days in early September. I am the best man in a wedding that is on September 17th, so I would need to be back home a couple of days before then. I'm hoping to have one hell of a story to tell everybody at the reception....

If you are interested or know anybody that is, please post here or shoot me a PM.

Thanks guys,

-Mitch

Hey Mitch,

I am from NW Ohio and I'm in a very similar boat as you are. I've booked a hunt in Colorado August 28th-Sept 3rd and it went from 4 of us to only me for sure. By booked I mean I've agreed to rent an outfitters camp for the week and it's a maximum of 4 either way. No guide just camp. My brother lives in Denver and we went out 2 years ago for an unsuccessful elk hunt and this year my plans were to try for mule deer. My brother is a question mark for this hunt because of a new baby but if he makes it he'll probably have an elk and bear tag. If you're interested or want some more information let me know and I can provide more.

It's looking like more than likely I'll be making the trip from az up to Colorado. I am not one to back out if I commit unless something really big came up. I would like to hook up with a few guys as well. I have a specific unit in mind and have researched it and scouted as well. Shoot me a PM if interested in talking further. I have been considering looking for a partner and bringing 2 pack mules in with me. I have actually been researching moving to the area I want to hunt. I am tired of az and not drawing elk tags.

What town/city are you at in Iowa? I am not sure I'm one to show you the ropes for I'm still a newbie. I haven't even had the chance to pull the bow back on one yet. I might be going out there the time you need to be back but I also might go the first 4 days of the season which I did last year too.

I will also try and get out there in July for a camping/scouting/fishing trip. Drop me a PM if you like. Keep in mind I've only been at it 4 years too.

Hey guys,

Thanks for showing all of the interest, but it looks like I've found a hunting partner for this fall. Good luck finding somebody to go with for the upcoming season!

For those looking for a partner, you might try the Forum on Eastmans.com as they started a group of people interested in this exact thing. Go to Community, then Groups, then Hunters Network. There's about 30 guys interested in finding partners so there might be someone there in a similar boat!
