Have a 3rd season tag never hunted the area before . Would like to know what would be considered average mature size for area. Thanks

It’s a mule deer in Colorado if he’s mature they’ll be big. But it’s an easy to draw tag. So mature deer will be few and far between.

I would find out the age class for the area. Not sure if that’s on the cpw website but I’m sure the local biologist or warden would know. Colorado typically produces good size bucks but I think our average age is way down.

Spend some time driving around within the Pagosa Springs city limits and out through the surrounding equestrian properties and you'll likely see the biggest deer the area has to offer.

Those units are crawling with young bucks.

I’ve seen huge mule deer tracks high in the weminuche but never actually seen the big bucks themselves.
