Well.... pickup is going in for a clutch tomorrow morning!

Going to hopefully pick up a 4wd rental as well then get back to hunting. Have talked to a few people that have killed nice bucks up high while locals have told us hunt low...

Well that sucks - got a good shop lined up? If not I can ask around for a good one in that area.

For what its worth - I hunted higher without any luck but dropped down in elevation and changed areas a bit and have been seeing much more. I am hunting 60 miles north of you.

Yeah goin to a place called peak2peak truck repair I think. It was recommended by a local.

I talked with a local contact yesterday, he just got back from an elk hunt around here with a friend and was seeing 15-20+ bucks a day, some still hanging in bachelor groups! He was up very high and said that the migration definitely isn't on and no signs of the rut either.

With that in mind we're going to hike in off a trailhead today and spike camp out till tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully we get into some bucks!

At walmart now, might grab a couple of these for the hike in...

Yea in my area where I live in Colorado (central Colorado). Big bucks are off by themselves. Away from does.

I have seen a few bigger ones swelled up and near does. But seems like not much going on.

Glad to hear that Justin. The guy I talked to said everybody is frustrated with the hunting right now and lack of deer where they normally are. Said everything is running about a week behind right now...

Well I set my Repair bill during a Hunt PR this year with an $1100 bill. That is the mark to beat...

One good thing about it was I knew I couldn't leave the state for 4 days

We're also cutting more tracks than we've seen till now, feeling positive!!

42 does on private tonight with no rut activity... did see a nice 170" buck on private as well.

Good Luck.
I had extremely bad luck there this year, being in those units for 23 days from July- September, and another 3 days during 2nd rifle, never saw a buck over 155".

I like those long guns. I wouldnt mind one of those carbon barrels on mine. Lets me know what kind of lead time those have when you get back. GOOD LUCK.

Well just crawled into my sleeping bag! I brought my Marmot sawtooth bag and have my 20* quilt inside it as well, I don't plan on gettin cold!

Saw 7 does tonight, no bucks but we've cut a few buck tracks. Will be out again first light. Not a whole lot else we can do at this point but we're here and having fun!
