Yes. If I don’t draw, I will post all the misinformation.

Question: if I don’t draw, will I have 1 pp for next year automatically? And if I don’t draw, will I have to buy another small game license and other fee to buy an otc license?

I’m aggravated with the process already this year. I should have went otc from the get go and gone after elk. It’s been too easy the last 3 years using hf and going to Montana. I’ve been spoiled by the process. This year, not so much.
Will not need to buy a small game to purchase an otc tag, just to enter the draw. You should already have your small game license through next March since you applied unless you bought a different qualifying license.

And when you do not draw your first choice, you automatically get the pp.

Thanks. I thought I read yesterday I would have to get another small game license. Appreciate the advice.

Yes, you will build a point, no you won't have to buy another license to buy an OTC license that's only to draw for a license. I understand it can seem intimidating, but it's really not very complicated. Next year if I were you I'd read the regs brochure front to back, reach out for help on the app process here, and use the resources that the CPW provides on statistics and even hunt planners you can call for free that will walk you through the application process. Or hire a guide that will do it all for you if you're not a DIY type of guy.

Appreciate the info. Like I said, in 3 years, never had a problem with hunting fools. We figured it would all be taken care of. Once we got a unit, we would research and go hunt. At this point, I wish I had done this on my own. I see it’s not complicated at all. I figured for $50 I’d let some one else do the leg work. Didn’t think I’d end up in trying to draw in a unit with 21% chance at 1 pp.

The most important thing you need to find out now is if they signed all of you guys up for the leftover draw or not.

Well...they didn’t. I guess it’s my fault for not realizing I needed to check a box to get the leftover tags. But at the same time, I’m paying to be advised on my best chance to hunt deer. Why the f would they not advice me to do that???!?!? I told them from the get go we didn’t want a trophy. Just a good hunting experience. So we picked “best odds”—21% with 1 pp. wtf

They applied for you, or you applied for yourself?

We have been using the same app for 3 years. Just updating it as needed. When we applied with hunting fools this year, we asked them what we needed to put to get the best odds of seeing deer and having a good hunt. They told us to fill out mule in co and to select “best odds”. This is similar to what we had done in Montana for 3 years with hunting fools. Each year 3-5 deer killed. Why would I not trust them this year to advise me correctly about a new state? Well I was not advised to check any additional boxes regarding leftover licenses

Looking at going OTC here for 3rd Rifle ELK. It appears that there is alot of BLM land that is landlocked around private. Does anybody have any intel on if it is legal to gate a USFS Road to block out public land hunters?

That was the biggest pain in the ass for us. We planned the whole trip around landlocked blms. Didn’t realize we couldn’t access through private as you can do a lot in Montana.
