Decided this was the year to burn my points! Cashed in 10 points and headed to Colorado for 2nd season. I scouted for three days before the opener, had to go to Texas for a work engagement and missed the first two days. It was cold and snowy. I was surprised at how difficult it was to turn up a buck bigger than 160. 🤷‍♂️. I hunted high, low and glassed till my eyes hurt. I saw an insane amount of deer, but that next level buck was hard to find.

I believe I saw this buck the night before I shot him. I was able to locate him the following evening bedded down in some pines and thick sage. I could only see his back forks, and they were impressive! He had insane g2’s with a cheater and a smalll in-line, but I couldn’t see his fronts. I took an educated gamble hoping his fronts would be decent. They weren’t. He is a very cool deer, tons of character and mass. It’s crazy the amount of bucks I looked over without seeing an above average buck. There were mediocre 4 points everywhere, dozens seen every day. I had a blast, learned a lot and can’t wait to go back.

Great job, at least it’s not a bucket buck.

Looks like a pretty nice buck. Maybe not worth 10 points, but nothing to be ashamed of either. What did he end up scoring?

Nice job! I would rather spend 10 points and hunt than covet them while my body further breaks down and the pressure builds so when the "point saver" hunter burns those 15 or 20 or 30 points that there is no distraction that season such as poor antler growth, fires, sick spouse, lost job, twisted ankle, unseasonable weather, etc. Waiting 10 years would mean a 20 year old building points would hunt at age 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 if lives to a normal lifespan and stays healthy enough to get on the mountain. 5 deer hunts. Wait for 15 years and 2 maybe 3. Wait for 30 years and 1 or 2 hunts. Hunt often, make memories. Beware of the riiiiiiing, the riiiiiiiiiiiiing.
