So after a lot of lookin, some callin, some sneakin looks at other forums, and a few hours on google earth at work when i probably should have been workin. I decided on using our 10 points and putting in for Co GMU 22 for third season this year with my dad. He is 70 and this will may be our last real chance at quality deer hunt. I am pretty stoked with that choice. Seems like with the right weather it could be a lot of fun. He has a few elk points to burn so he may get a cow tag too. I am going to get an archery elk tag with my son and go back there in September to have a look around and see if i cannot get my 17 year old son his first look at a screamin bull.

More than anything I would like to know if anyone has hunted the area and has good places to camp, rent, etc. We may jut stay in Rifle but we have some other options too. Curious what has worked for others in that unit.

curious how your hunt went I’m very interested in unit 22. I’ve applied the past few years!! Feel free to pm me. Thanks

I’ve hunted 22 3rd season deer the last 2 years and it’s been really tough to find a quality buck. If you’re happy with a 160-170” type buck the area is ok but the quality has gone downhill. I did pass a mid 80’s buck last year on the third day and that was the best buck I found. I’ve hunted the whole season the last two years. There are several good areas to camp within the area.
