Speaking from experience I would go with a solid color. Im an OCD gear junkie, and I dumped about a grand into my Kifaru a couple of years ago all in Highlander, because I was all into Kryptek (still a great pattern) then Fusion came along and again I was in love with someone else. Now the OCD gods cring now that I'm tromping through the woods wearing all Fusion with a Highlander pack. My point being if you are going to invest that much money into a Kifaru which will long out last the next ten new camo patterns that you are going to have to get, just get a universal solid color that will go with anything and save yourself the future grief.

In regards to avoiding camo, the non camos are usually cheaper. I've never been a fan of multicam or coyote brown so I've always steered towards foliage/wolf grey. Like you, I've never gotten any weird looks hunting, even when carrying. So, like others, I've leaned towards my color choice just based on preference.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ These last two post are why I went with gray. I was at the top of my budget already so I didn't want to add another $40 or 50 to the total for camo. I may also change camo patterns and I didn't want to reinvest in a bag if I didn't like my choice.

Well, first of all, thanks for all the replies. Good stuff to read and food for thought. I ended up biting the bullet. This is an anniversary gift from my wife, so I had to decide everything and then tell her what to order. Basically put my order in the Kifaru cart online and she got on the computer while I was at work and did the checkout. Kind of silly, I know, but after 14 years its still the thought that counts!

I decided on coyote brown for the Hunter Duplex and the AMR bag. But my pockets and whichever accessories were available I got in Fusion. Kind of odd what is and what isn't available in Fusion, but oh well. I'm pretty pumped about it. Was trying to decide between EMR ll and AMR and thought I would go with EMR ll until I called Kifaru and was directed a bit toward the AMR. I'm sure i'd be happy with either. But I'm guessing this anniversary gift will probably be more of a Christmas gift by the time it arrives. But all good things come to those who wait I'm told.

Thanks again guys. I appreciate the information and opinions greatly.

I thought about this long and hard. Black and coyote are out of the question for me because there are too many idiots with rifles shooting at what appears to be a bear or deer or elk but in reality is some poor bastard wearing the wrong color in the backcountry. I have a big bag (DT1) in foliage that I use for all my long trips. Blends well with every environment and doesn't scream HUNTER when in public.

That said, I recently added a new frame with a cargo panel and pouches in mandrake. It is my designated freighter/day pack for big game now and it is sweet.

Yeah...morons in the field influenced my decision, examples can be found everywhere. http://www.rokslide.com/forums/show...amp-Pack-Color-Selection&highlight=pack+color

Doubt frame color makes any diff to the moron, probably just shooting at movement no matter the color. Better stay out of the woods :)

Kifaru has a high resale value so if you decide on something different down the road sell your current stuff and buy the pattern you want

Yeah the high resale is slowly decreasing now that Aron has sold so many packs and comes out with a new one every year, for example the old frames are selling for close to $225 on avg, 6 months ago the same frame sold for $325ish.

The more popular and the more new products come out plus not having to wait if you order from one shot gear has hurt resale.

That said, I won't run anything but Kifaru. Oh yeah if it isn't CB or a camo that goes with CB I ain't buyin it, have yet to get shot in the woods.

It probably won't hurt you in the field if your pack isn't camo, but it could hurt you at the airport if it is. Foliage (and whatever Kifaru's replacement for it) for me. That Kryptek pattern is dead sexy though...

All you guys purging your foliage gear and jumping to wolf gear may want to wait until Kifaru has "flushed out" their wolf products.

I have a healthy blend of wolf and foliage gear. I've slowly been getting some wolf products when foliage isn't available and the wolf color is all over the place still. The "older" 500d wolf was very blue in color. I just received a 500d wolf guide lid with matching wolf zipper and it's very dark (like the 1000d wolf) and not blue at all. Not to mention that Kifaru still uses foliage pack-cloth on wolf grey packs too.

Just an FYI ;)

I mix and match camo mostly to stir up the OCD in guys like some of you. ;-) There was a guy on another forum who made a comment that I was wearing a Kryptek shirt and Kuiu pants in a hero photo. I guess that photo won't be allowed on any magazine covers due to my fashion faux pas? Shucks.

I'm not concerned with what people think when I'm out and about and I don't have anything to hide at the airport. The color close to animals is an actual issue in some areas, but I don't hunt during rifle and I've seen guys blast towards movement before so color in that respect doesn't matter. I'll be going coyote from here on out though, bag will be brown, accessories and lid will be camo.

I've got a mandrake bag and frame, and love the pattern, but I dropped it, and spent the next 45 minutes looking for the damn thing.

It's not what you have to hide at the airport, it's what people who disagree with hunting will try to find (or just make up) in order to inconvenience you that you need to worry about. I've almost missed flights twice due to disagreeable airline employees when I carried a camo pack.

If you don't mind sharing, what type of things did they say that made you go with the AMR? I am kind of in the same boat right now, trying to make a decision.

It's kind of funny reading a discussion of color/camo decisions for a Kifaru hunting pack.
It wasn't long ago that EVERY model of Kifaru hunting pack was only available in black.
It's a miracle that anyone killed an animal :):):)

I just received my Kifaru hunting duplex, cargo panel, belt pouches, and guide lid, all in wolf gray. I ended up sending it all back for coyote brown. I'm not ocd as far as all my colors/tones matching exactly, but the blue tint to some of the wolf gray stuff was not my cup of tea at all (in fact, only the shoulder straps on the frame was a true charcoal-like gray - everything else was blue/gray). Kifaru is going to try to put a "matching set" of true/charcoal gray together (it would definitely be my color of preference), but if they can't I'll stick with getting coyote.

I am a little nervous about CB and looking like a critter, BUT, I think a blaze orange flag is a good idea regardless if you think it will be an issue. That, coupled with the fact that CB is widely available and matches a wide variety of terrain makes it a good choice in terms of versatility.

I don't do camo on packs either, don't see the point of paying for it over solid colors and I don't like patterns that don't match. I will not wear coyote brown out there either, dressing up like a deer or elk in deer/elk season makes 0 sense to me, lol. Foliage, black, or gray is what I go with for packs.....I even by a lot of the solids from Kuiu when I can.

I went CB frame, cargo panel, and AMR. I figured that adding camo pockets and lid would break it up. However, after receiving my order, I'm loving the CB color. Maybe you'll like your setup, when you get it.
