Anybody hunt in collared shirts? You know, like a button up shirt with chest pockets and a collar? Too old school? Here in the old world, it's quite common....just never see it offered by any of the "big 3" hunting companies or see any discussion about it here.

First Lite has a nice merino button up as does the traditional wool companies like Filson, King of the Mountain, Sleeping Indian, Silent Predator. The

I used to hunt in collared wool and micro tex shirts, but I much prefer a good fleece hoodie like the Patagonia R1 these days. I seem to lose a lot of heat around my neck area otherwise.

always always hunted in Cabela's "worstelon" no matter what AND THEN along came Sitka Gear with the Traverse Hoody and I was ruined for good - Hooded ANYTHING is so much more versatile and like castandblast said, if I don't have a hood behind me to fluff up at the neck or pull over the back of my head I'm gonna have a chill in no time, hooded jackets and puffys are "the shit" as well

What about warm weather? In places where skeeters are bad, is the typical Merino baselayer zip that everyone uses thick enough? I am coming at this from a non hunting background, as I am a new hunter, but not new to backpacking by any means. Just trying to bridge the gap I guess and see what I have been missing or what's worse about what I have always ran

Skeeters will go right through lightweight Merino, but they've never been a problem here during hunting season for me. In June, a guy could get carried away by them however. DEET!

I use a columbia silver ridge long sleeve. It's a synthetic shirt, not as warm or comfy as wool but great in hot weather or even as a second layer.

All my Microtex and Microtex Lite shirts are button up with collars. Love the front pockets as that's where I keep my rangefinder now with the lanyard around my neck. Worked exceptionally well this year.

In very cold weather I'll break out one of Pendleton button ups, it's a tight weave, relatively light wool- I usually have a mid-weight merino hoodie layered underneath- kind of an old school meets new school thing :D

I wear Cabelas Microtex collared shirts pretty much all the time when hunting, from early September to late November. I wear a merino base layer under them too. Of course sometimes I shed it mid morning during early season, then back on for the evening. Guess I'm old school but really like the button up with chest pockets. I looked at the FL one but it was way to expensive!

I too wear Cabela's Microtex collared shirts with merino base layers. They are warm, comfortable and have great pockets.

I used to wear collared shirts but now prefer hoodies, vests and such from First Lite and Sitka. A little more versitile for hunting, hiking and outdoors. I have some rough wool Fred Asdel hoodies I like to wear too.

I do have Cabelas microtex but haven't used it for a couple years now. Still like a good wool button shirt like my Pendleton. I usually wear that on weekends in the fall and winter when I'm not hunting now.

I like my button up Cabelas Microtex shirt too. I really like the way they cut the wind. They almost add too much warmth for me while climbing but it's a darn nice garment especially for the price.
