Cold Weather Mittens Combo

Hello,

I want a bombproof mitten setup. Looking for late season in the mountains. It has to be 2 piece because of access to trigger in a pinch, while keeping my hand warm. Im thinking these kinco Alyeska wool fold down mitts but looking for a chopper like leather mitt to cover. This is for extreme cold so not at all worried about wet. I have Kinco insulated leather mitts but their insulation gets thin in the high wear spots.

What type of leather do you prefer for these? Cow/Pig/Deer/Goat? Why?

Dang I’m surprised you are having issues with the Kinco mitts. I use a super thin liner glove and the Kinco mitts over the top.

This year I hunted with 4 different guys between -4* to -14*. They all had different combos including those wool mitts you posted. I was the only one that never got cold fingers. I replace the mittens every 1.5-2 years because of tearing them up.

This might be a good point, I've had mine over 5 years now I do love em.

My kinco mittens lasted 2 days on elk hunting before the stitching started coming apart. I was pretty disappointed, because they are probably the most comfortable glommit that I've owned.

You are talking about the glomitts and not the mittens? I've used the mittens a lot and never had them come apart. I also get the biggest size so they aren't tight at all. That might help since the seems see zero stress.

I've used L.L.Bean outer leather mittens and alpaca wool liners for the past few seasons, never had an issue with getting a shot off at animals and they have been bombproof. You can either buy the mitten liners or the glove style inserts

Outdoor research had an awesome set of wool glomits. I always hoped they would offer the same material in a fingerless glove but I never found them or anything similar.
