I’ve been using the brimmed first lite beanie for the last couple years, goofy looking but it works well. I have a big head and it covers my ears, before that I wore a regular hat and a carhartt beanie over it

Any hat mentioned above is fine, the thing that's worth it pack-weight in gold, in cold weather, is the Shampa neck products. You can pull it over your chin and up to your ears where it meets your hat if needed. For the still whitetail hunter, leave a small gap at the ear canal that doesn't your hearing. This will get you through well into sub zero temps.
