Well...I think it's safe to say summer is here, at least by the calendar. I was talking with a business friend the other day and he mentioned hauling a loaded ice chest to the beach, with beer of course along with other goodies. That got me thinking about having a really...I mean really cold brew without a lot of effort or mess. So I tried something:
I grabbed my smallest Yeti Hopper (Flip 8) and dropped a Yeti Ice pack in the bottom. Next came 2 bottles of Alaskan Amber on their sides. Add some ice cubes to surround the bottles, and then another blue ice pack above. Zipped it up and set it aside for a later refreshment after we (wife and I) did some outside work in the landscape.
Later: Pulled the bottles out and found none of the ice cubes had melted any. The bottles developed immediate frost. I pulled out a couple of frosted beer glasses and dumped the first bottle. I had an instant slushy beer with a sort of ice cream head on it. The beer was so cold it didn't allow the frost to melt on the glass. A couple of minutes later both of our glasses were brimming with beer so cold it gives one a headache. I stuck an instant-read thermometer in my glass and it was at 27°F. Best damn beer ever on a warm afternoon.
Other tricks?
