My son and I did 5-6 years ago, used 11points. Very dry year and lopes were
near water or on private. You found animals you also found lots of hunters.
Never really seen a good lope and seen plenty of little guys shot. IMO I would
say most WY units are as good.
A few years ago it took me 13 points to draw a lic. in unit 3. The bad part is , I thought the season was to start on such a such date ( don’t remember the exact date ) and got everything packed and ready to head out. Got lic. out of the place I had been keeping it, and as I looked at it noticed it was already the last day of the season, 13 year wait down the drain. It’s far to long to wait again, so I don’t bother applying anymore.
Hunted it several times over the years back when you could draw tags easier growning up, landowner tags, and with 13 points back in 2016. I’ve also helped some friends kill a few out there. I haven’t been out there for a couple years. Used to be a fun hunt even with all the other hunters. Usually had some high 70’s bucks with a few bigger. I got super lucky in ‘16 and killed a giant 17” buck but that’s not the norm. How many points ya got?
We hunted it last fall. Scouted 3 days prior to opening day. Never saw what I would consider a giant. Opening morning as anticipated a flood of trucks, cars, utv's, atv's were everywhere at daylight. Felt pretty luck for my son to shoot a good heavy horned buck at around 9 am.
I had been considering hunting it, but after that I have other antelope plans in place. If you look at the historical data, you can see the Colorado Division of Wildlife has dramatically increased the tag numbers in there over the last 12 years. At this point I view it as a low quality hunting experience. But they get a lot of money by issuing 2-3 times as many tags.
It was a solid antelope, and glad he got him. But from what we saw, this was extremely fortunate.
