Anyone ever run into Ptarmigan in CO? Does anyone here hunt them?

I've heard there are some around Guanella Pass (or in that general area). Seems like it'd be a fun early season bird hunt above the tree line.

Well this is either a great sign or a really bad one...could go either way.

Great: Nobody hunts them

Bad: There's not enough to make it worth the effort.

I guess come late sept/eary oct i'll have to find out!

ya, last season they were everywhere in my area. I tried, but couldn't connect / get close enough w the bow.

Ptarmigan hide so well and move very carefully, you can walk past them and never see them, just something to keep in mind. Mother are a fantastic bird for wing shooting

That's what my pointy dog is for.....but yes I've heard they blend in incredibly well..
