So my situation is I am not an elk hunter (well my wife and I are 2 for 2 on cow tags) but buy the points since I am buying deer points. I have 3 pts in WY and 5 in CO going into next year. I am getting to that point where I either need to use them or plan on saving for many more years. Would like to do a muzzleloader or rifle hunt. I am mostly a bow hunter (gotten more into muzzleloaders the last couple seasons) but knowing nothing about elk want to increase my chances. I am an avid backpack hunter wondering if anyone is in the same boat as I am. Experienced elk hunter welcome

Depending on the unit I could scout the unit a couple times, my wife and I like to backpack any chance we get.

One rule, after reading about some people and their "friends" who have to go home early, I am driving and we are staying until our hunt is over. ;)

In wyoming unless you are specifically applying for a type 6 archery only tag(which limits you to only archery) it would be wise to hunt with your bow. It gives you an extra month (September ) to hunt and it's during the rut. If you fail with the bow, you can hunt during rifle season with your muzzle loader. I'm not aware of any muzzle loader only hunts for elk in wyoming.
