Can someone verify if I have the below correct regarding coyote hunting in Colorado? I have my small game license and am west of I25.

I can use any caliber (223, 6.5, 300) if I have a small game license only?

If I have a big game tag, I can use any caliber until I fill that big game tag, then I need to use .230 or smaller for coyotes?

Orange is only mandatory when big game hunting but is probably recommended.

I called a local office but the phone rep was all over the place.

Thanks, so if I was just tagging along helping buddies (I won't have a deer/elk tag next year) I would need to use a sub-.230 if I wanted to tote something along to shoot a coyote with?

I am not sure about the caliber restrictions but something to consider. If you want to take a furbearer other than coyote (fox, badger, etc.), you will need a furbearer license.

If you are helping a buddy during rifle season, I would wear some orange.

That is a terribly written sentence. What if you're east of I-25, it's not a regular deer or elk season?

I agree, it is poorly written.

In the case you state, use whatever you want.

We have a 6mm minimum for big game. The intention of the law is to prevent "party hunting" by people who claim to be hunting coyotes with a 30-06 while "helping" their friends with a deer/elk tags.

As it is written, one can still use a rifle less than the big game minimum while West of I-25 and during big game seasons.

Whoever wrote that law must not know what they’re doing or members of rokslide. 22 calibers make the best big game rifles

I am confident that "Centerfire rifles larger than .23 caliber" means .24. If they wanted it otherwise, they would/should have included the thousandths. Good luck!

East/west of I25 changes various regulations. East of I25 is also mostly private. Generally speaking I think you can shoot a coyote with whatever caliber any time of the year on the east side.

CO has a .243 minimum caliber for big game.
