My buddy and I drew 3rd season tags in SW CO that range from 13k to ~6k in elevation, with a lot of stuff in the 8-10 range. I'm headed to the area the weekend after next to get my eyes on the lower terrain.

Should I focus my efforts on any of the higher basins (my buddy is hinting that that's where he wants to hunt) or will they be vacated by the time Nov rolls around?

I presume weather will dictate when the deer start moving, but I want to make the most of my 3 day trip.

Congrats
Might as well start high and get the harder hikes out of the way when on fresh legs and work your way down.
We've only hunted 3rd season twice, the first trip bucks were just starting to check does and last time was full blown rut so we found deer lower in the range in thick cover near private land, the private was packed with does both trips

I’m not a Colorado resident but when I’ve hunted it, on average most bucks will be at or below 10K on 3rd season. Every unit is different but that’s what I’ve seen in about 4 of them that I’ve hunted.

I like to drive around and glass up as many doe groups as possible the first few days then check in on each group everyday. If your not seeing bucks come in to check the does start working your way higher.
