CO 3rd Rifle Thread

I just started seeing some rutting on public land in NW Colorado but all really small bucks. Not too many gunshots but a lot of hunters.

2nd day of 3rd season. With 4 other smaller bucks. 25saum 135 Berger at 477yd.
Not interested in the 15 does below them at all. 10,500’ ele. Glassed 1 mature buck later in the week above tree line at 11,700’. A lot of small deer and big doe groups with 0 interest from bucks. S. Colorado pray for snow and good luck to the fortunate 4th season guys

Finally found some bucks pushing does today. Missed a shot on a buck because I forgot to hold for wind. He was schmedium sized but had some cool character. Hoping they are starting to move a bit more. Definitely saw more deer on their feet today then in the past 5 days.

I am looking for bulls not bucks but watched this guy run off a forky and steal his girlfriend two days ago. The morning before I had a small 4x4 dogging a doe within 5 yards of me at first light. Freaked me out because you never know what a rutted up buck will do. I tried my best to spoke them off quietly. She ended up coming closer, but he stayed away. I think she was using me as a buck block because she wasn't ready to breed.

Awesome buck! I seen one just like
After seeing little bucks all over does, I finally found a hot doe that was getting pushed by a good buck. Extras get ya killed, and he just happened to have a flyer with a split that got me excited.

him with a sticker off the left side during 2nd season, never got a shot at him .

I unfortunately struck out this season in NW CO. I saw some 2 pointers opening weekend, but figured I'd hold out for something bigger. Saw a big 3 pointer (maybe more) fighting off some smaller bucks by some does, but couldn't make it work out. Good to see some action though.

Congrats to all those who tagged out!

My son turned 12 last week, had his first big game tag for 3rd season buck. He was able to fill it last night. No it isn’t the biggest buck but is the one I’m most proud of. My father in law passed away 5 years ago and we inherited his Marlin lever action 30-30. This gun fits my son perfect and he shoots it well. We practiced through summer and fall, last night he made an absolute perfect 100 yard shot and was calm as could be. Along with that, my dad came with us yesterday, so we had 3 generations there and used grandpas gun. A day none of us will forget.

Good luck to everyone chasing them these last couple of days.

My neighborhood bachelor group were not together last night for the first time in weeks. Saw a buck pushing a doe this morning while driving to go elk hunting.
