I’ve got some serious analysis paralysis going into the CO draw. I’m sitting on a mid size chunk of non resident deer points and I want to burn them. I have some options in mind but ultimately I’m still very torn.

One of the biggest mental hurdles for me is whether I need to go 3rd in a slightly lesser known unit or 2nd in a more… historically known unit.

Part of my brain thinks 2nd gives you first crack at them in Oct but I know the rut isn’t quite churning yet and the weather can be warmer.

Then there’s 3rd season which I know is getting into the rut but I also know of the weather is like it was last year it can slow things way down….

So I think my question here is 2nd vs 3rd? Is there that much of a difference or am I just over thinking it (trick question, I already know I am).

Coin toss man. We won’t know what the weather will be. If you have a couple days to pre scout I would say 3rd, if you have the whole 9 days to hunt but can’t come early I would say 2nd

I think the bigger deer that are killed in 2nd are from guys who scouted or have hunted the unit before.
Easier to just show up and get lucky in the 3rd…

Id worry less about which season and more on which tag you can get for sure but maybe they are both a sure deal for you. Either season will be good - go with the unit with less hype.

Last year I started noticing obvious rutting behavior in my unit half way through 2nd season and it only got better as the week progressed.

I would have loved to have the 3rd season tag though

You are not burning your points, you are USING your points. When in doubt go 3rd season. Especially since they changed it back to a 9 day season. But I have had success in 2nd just have to hunt harder if it's warm.

What do you consider a "a mid sized chunk of points"?
