Close to home in a unit with low elk numbers, or 4 hours from home with more elk?

Thanks again everyone. I think the answer here is to hunt both areas. I think I can get enough scouting in, and should be pretty easy to do that around the house. I will make a few pre season trips to the other areas further away and then have a backup plan. If I were to get into elk in say July and august, what are the chances of them being close to that areas, assuming undisturbed, September 1st?
