Hey Roksliders, quick question for those of you with a Mesa, specifically a 300 win mag. Every now and then, fired brass or loaded rounds won’t eject when the gun is canted with the magazine opening facing up at a 45 degree angle.

When the gun is plumb straight up and down like when in a vice, the loaded brass or fired round will eject so long as i give the bolt a little extra force on the way back.

Is this normal?
Reloaded or factory, high end or low end ammunition it always happens when at that angle. Any info would be appreciated

My Browning X Bolt Max Long Range has issues at times. It looks like at certain angles the shell is hitting the windage turret. If I cant it slightly to the right no issues. If I work the bolt agressively it works at all angles.

that’s EXACTLY what mine is doing. Weird. I wonder if it has something to do with the internal magazine or ejector pins. Thanks.

It has to do with the angle of the ejector and large windage knobs. It's a known issue, recently a few manufacturers have started trying to distinguish their product by advertising lower ejection angles to clear the turrets.

The less extreme solutions are picking a scope with a low profile windage turret or learning to angle the gun so it's not an issue.

I had a christensen mesa in a standard action caliber and it failed to eject brass clear of the action quite a few times. I have shot two mesas in 7 rem that had no such issues

what was the standard action caliber you were shooting?
