Choosing a new Sight; down to two.

I've decided to go with a multi-pin slider for hunting. I'm looking at the Black Gold Ascent Verdict and the Spot Hogg Tommy Hogg. I'm leaning toward the Ascent Verdict because I feel having the yardage tape in view of the pins will decrease the chance of me forgetting if I moved the pins.

I also understand the ATA Show is coming up and new choices may come out.

Any input or advice will be appreciated.

I had a Tommy Hogg until it was stolen. I bought the Ascent Verdict to try something lighter and once season is over with i need to send it in to MBG for some work. Then I will sell it and buy another Tommy Hogg. From the start the sight was loud and I have silicone and tape on it currently to help with the noise. And something on the slider part wasn't machined square so now if my sight isn't maxed out up it has some play and is loud as heck again. I realize I was unlucky and got a goofy one and their CS will take care of me. And like you say it's dang nice to be able to view the tape on the MBG.... But I may stick with Spott Hogg from now on. We'll see.

But yeah, I'd wait until after ATA if you can and see whats new..

I have the Black Gold Ascent Verdict (single pin with a 6" dove-tail). It's without question the best sight I've ever owned. You won't be disappointed going that route...

Both are good options. The Spot Hogg is without a doubt a more rugged sight. I've sold a lot of both and have little to no problems with the Tommy Hoggs. Don't take that as there is a lot of problems with the BG, just less with the SH when comparing the two.

I am an ounce counter but I stick with the spot hogg for the ruggedness. If that sight moves at all then you're screwed. I am very happy with my tommy hogg.

I had a BG Pure series slider and sold it. The pins buzzing drove me crazy, and it was heavy. I shoot a SH Hunter and really like it. If I went to a slider it would be a Tommy for sure.

I have the 5 pin MBG Ascent Verdict with a 6 inch dovetail. This is the best sight I have ever used. It is build like a tank and has never broke it even though it has been cliff tested a few times. The only thing on it that I have broke is the slider knob when I fell on the bow with a 110 pound pack on helping a friend with his elk this year. Otherwise this thing is indestructible. It might not look as good as the Tommy Hogg but that isn't the focus with this sight. Build tough and look tough

MBG pure series is the shit. To me the SH wheel dial/tape is not as user friendly as the BG. I have two Pure Adrenaline and a friend has a pure gold. All three work flawless. I can't speak for the ascent series because I have not tried them.

I used to only use spot hogg but upgraded to a MBG Sinhle pin and love it. But I don't think you can go wrong with either MBG or SH.

Axcel accustat is a also worth looking into. Absolutely love mine.

Okay, so now a minor shift. After considering all the comments here, now I'm looking at the MPG Pure Gold 75 and the Boss Hogg (the wheel seems to be more visible at draw). They're about the same price.

I find it odd that I can't find weights posted anyplace.

As others have mentioned they're both top tier sights. I've owned multiples of both. Currently shooting an MBG custom I got through S&S Archery. Personally, I'd give the nod to MBG because I like their pins better. They're just a little sharper than the Spot Hogg sights IMO. S&S also has the weights listed on their site. MBG Pure Gold 75 is listed at 9.9oz and the Boss Hogg isn't listed. I'd be willing to be they'd get you a weight on one if they had it in stock, though.

I owned a Tommy Hogg and shot it for years. Decided to swap it up on a bow I bought earlier in this year and go with the MBG. Since then I actually purchased another bow and decided to go with another MBG (Pure Gold) because, after using both, I liked the MBG better. In particular, I like the slider wheel better (location and feel), the micro pin adjustment better, and the visibility of the sight tape better. They are both bomb-proof sights.

you cant go wrong with either sight.

the SH is easier to adjust with those badass see-saw allens, the tensioned allens to pull the windage and elevation = super cool, but the MBG has positive locks where nothing ever moves. in the end, i dig the simplicity of the MBG.

I was looking at this at S&S. What does the dove tail give you? And why the Ascent Verdict over one of the MBG Pure sights?

The pure I had was heavier then the Ascent. Now they streamlined the pure so it's probably closer in weight. I like the dovetail because it allows to me tailor the sight position vs my peep sight. I find it adds versatility from bow to bow. I also prefer not to have much if any of the base extending behind my riser, for aesthetics and dovetail allows me to adjust that as well.
The MBG with a three standard non micro adjust housing I found to be as solid as anything, lightweight and very dependable.
