An unproven supplement that many have attached the "if - then" statement to it. Sure, there are some studies that show it can increase production of hemoglobin molecules in your body (I believe the actual study is based in animal test subjects, but you can extrapolate that to humans). Next comes the "reach" in saying that since it increases hemoglobin molecules in the body, increasing oxygen carrying capacity, it WILL prevent/help/treat Altitude sickness. I have not seen a single study that has confirmed this association. Not saying it won't' but nothing currently showing it will the last I really researched the topic..

Like all supplements, most of the research/literature is lacking and the regulatory bodies of said supplements is also lacking. Lots of "claims" but nothing to support it. So......it may not be any better/worse than your Mountain Ops, Wilderness Athlete, etc etc. Walmart over the counter supplements. Likely not going to hurt you either but I would do more research and find a proven treatment option.

I think grabbing a bag of Cocoa leaves for the hike up will do more than anything 🤣

Nothing like slow aclimatization to the elevation. I had altitude sickness in Bolivia because I ran stupid on my first day after landing in La Paz, walking all over down town and hitting the hotel gym. That night I wanted to cut my head off, coca leaf tea didn't do anything to alleviate headache. Embassy doctor had to prescribe me Diamox for the duration. Yet, many years later, I went up to 14000 ft in Ecuador with no trouble because I had acclimated for a week prior. Just a suggestion...

This is true. After 20 plus years hiking and hunting near 11k, the best thing is 4 to 5 days of easy living at altitude. We get there early to do this, plus I spend some time at 5-7k in the months prior to season. It works.

The other thing that seems to be really beneficial has been testosterone. It creates more red bloods cells. Stamina, recovery and strength are night and day different. It's kind of a totally different topic, but for middle aged guys it's a game changer.

Get your doc to prescribe some diamoxx. Very well studied and effective. And acclimate slowly regardless!
