BOO! I dig the lamp. Bright, durable, has a red LED and a cool dimmer feature. I got a white and orange one so I could find it easy in my pack. Moot point since more often than not I opened my pack to find it already switched on! Just took it on a week long desert deer hunt. Found out the on/off button inst recessed enough to prevent accidental pressing. Bummer.

Damn. This thing had great battery life too.

I've had the same problem with my BD. You can "lock" them by pressing the button for something like 3 sec before you put them in the pack, but I've forgotten to do that a couple times. Nothing more irritating that burning through 4 very expensive brand new lithium's in your pack, and then having a dead light when you need it.

Yea. I try to lock it. Sometimes it doesn't work. And I'm not smart enough to test my work. Plus I forget.

I'm prob looking for an excuse to go for a zebra. Centralizing all my batteries would kick butt.
 
I just got the Petzl Tikka RXP, the model with the reactive technology, a little over a month ago, and so far I'm really digging it. I've never had any issues with any of my Petzl lights turning on in my pack, plus the fact that it's rechargeable and programmable are also nice. The zebra lights do also have me intrigued though.
 
This is why I like my petzl myo. Super bright, usable settings, sips batteries, has a light diffuser which rocks, and has an on off switch protector.

Only downfall of it is that it is not waterproof.
 
The Zebra accidently comes on all the time also. I carry mine with the battery reversed until I need it.
 
What model BD? With the Storm and others just hold the power button until the bright blue light flashes on the side. Locked....

My BD Storm lasts an entire season of heavy use but I usually hike with it dimmed quite low.
 
even the recessed button types get pushed on when your pack is stuffed with crap. I've had lamps by most of the various makers over time. Right now I have 2 BDs and 1 Petzl. I love the BD lock function, its the only guarantee that it wont get turned on in your pack. If you hold the power button down for 6 sec it will flash a blue light letting you know its locked. Get in the habit of using it and you won't have a problem. No drained batteries for me this year....
 
I've had most of the headlamps accidentally turned on too. Nothing worse than opening the pack at the end of day to get camp prepared and find a dim headlamp in the pack.

With the Zebra, I've found that a small, flat, stiff piece of plastic with electric tape keeps anything from accidentally turning it on. I used to do the same thing on my old Tikka's with a piece of electric tape over the switch. It's a cheap and light option for saving some batteries on a trip.
 
My BD has the lock, but it still turned on surprisingly frequently while in my pack. I am thinking about taping a bottle cap over the switch while in transit. Carrying it with the batteries out (which is another option) is a poor option IMO. That is a very annoying situation with an otherwise great light.
 
Mine was locked and I went to unlock it ( in the dark) turns out I was not holding my mouth just right apparently. Anyway it came on eventually.
My Petzl died after years of good service.
I am liking the BD Revolt
